More Asterix Character Figures and a look at some Romans

Plastoy Asterix at Olympics set ....
I've been examing my Call-to-Arms romans, not a very well posed set; basically they've moulded the shields and bodies together. I tried a couple of mods on two of the poses, held together with blue tack (in picture below: modified pose1-pose1, modified pose 2 -pose2).  Will need to finish them off properly to guage if its worth the effort to apply to more - on the plus size the figs are plastic and cheap.
The other two poses, one useable but the other !

Initial Choices, Samples etc

Have decided on 54mm, they are closest in size to the Asterix characters I started with.
Have been sampling a couple figure sets:
  • Italeri Gauls - - nice set 8 poses, 16 in set
  • HAT Gallic Warband - nice set 4 poses, 16 in set
  • Call to Arms Roman Warriors - 4 poses, 16 in set - not very good set of poses - possibly convertable.
Also had a look metal figures- best so far is Irregular Miniatures (£3.75 a foot figure) - plan to use these for commanders/officers.

I've also found there is another tube of Asterix characters which includes some romans - which I've ordered.

Some initial ideas on basing is to use poker chips, I have a load I got in a charity shop which I use for trees but they seem to suit the 54mm figs.

What got me started ...

I've been looking for another period for my wargaming and had though of ancients but needed a stimulus. Some Asterix characters from Plastoy (Plastoy Tubo Asterix Tube) got the old brain started. These are approx 45mm+ in size they could be large 40mm or undersize 54mm.
Hmm ? so 40mm or 54mm gaming - food for thought. Currently sampling some figs.
